Set in a snowy New Hampshire town, this gripping psychological drama follows Wade Whitehouse (Nick Nolte), a small-town sheriff haunted by his abusive upbringing and a troubled relationship with his domineering father, Glen (James Coburn). As Wade investigates a suspicious hunting accident, his obsession with uncovering the truth drives him deeper into paranoia and rage. His girlfriend, Margie Fogg (Sissy Spacek), a kind and patient local waitress, tries to support him, while his brother, Rolfe (Willem Dafoe), narrates the story and reflects on their shared past. With his personal life unraveling and past traumas resurfacing, Wade risks losing everything. Directed by Paul Schrader and based on the novel by Russell Banks.
