Program Description
Event Details
Join us for an artist talk with Olivia Guterson, who will share her journey as an artist and the inspirations and influences that shape her practice. She will discuss the importance of material, texture, and gesture in her work, offering insight into the processes that define her practice.
Olivia Guterson is a Detroit-based artist. Her multifaceted compositions are deeply personal investigations of truth influenced by geometric abstraction, remembrance, ancestral patterns, and their relation to the natural world. The intricate layerings in her work reveal her inner knowings that exist beyond written language, and the iconographies that comprise each piece are informed by familial memories as well as place. Looking beyond mere subject matter, she investigates surface texture and physicality as a vehicle for storytelling.
