Glaucoma Simplified

Registration required.

Glaucoma, the most common cause of irreversible blindness in the world, most often presents without symptoms causing permanent vision loss. This discussion aims to provide a simplified framework to understand this common and devastating eye disease. We will breakdown who is at risk and when one should be evaluated, as well as what glaucoma diagnosis and treatment entails. Through knowledge and awareness of glaucoma, we hope to limit its negative impact in our community and beyond.

Dr. Stephen Walters completed his undergraduate education at Miami University of Ohio where graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Zoology.  He received his M.D. at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan where he was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society and was awarded multiple scholarships throughout his medical school training. He completed a transitional internship year at Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Illinois, and then his residency training in ophthalmology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City.  He went on to complete a glaucoma fellowship at Columbia University in New York, where he trained with some of the most established and well-respected glaucoma specialists in the U.S.

Dr. Walters is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS). He has multiple peer-reviewed publications in various ophthalmology journals and has presented at both regional and national ophthalmology conferences/meetings.
