Event Details
Grades 2 to 8 are invited to learn about the incredible journey of the Hamer Family, who traveled to freedom via the Underground Railroad and eventually settled in Royal Oak. Through the graphic novel Journey to Freedom: The Hamer Family Story, written and illustrated by local student Shaelyn Simms, participants will explore this inspiring history in an engaging and accessible way.
After the story, children will create a beautiful watercolor night sky project, bringing their creativity to life! Copies of the graphic novel will be available for purchase for $5 (cash or Venmo only).
🌟 Bonus for Scouts: Scouts attending this event will receive a free fun patch to commemorate their experience.
Join us for a hands-on, educational, and artistic exploration of history!
